The Grand Panorama, Before Treatment, Recto
The Grand Panorama of London: from the Thames extending new houses of Parliament to Greenwich Hospital is a case-bound panorama, extending eighteen feet when fully open. Designed by Henry Vizetelly (1820-1894), the hand-colored print was distributed as a complimentary gift to subscribers of The Pictorial Times, one of many competing periodicals that emerged at that time.

Major treatment concerns:
-
Pressure sensitive tape is preventing the proper opening of the book.
-
The joint of the front board has split.
-
The creases of the panorama are beginning to tear, with complete detachment between panel 13 and 14.

The purpose of this treatment is to repair damage caused by use and handling. The Grand Panorama of London is featured in the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture's British Design History course.
